Unlock your leadership potential with The Powerful Principal Programme - an exclusive personal development course tailored for headteachers or principals in their first three years of headship.
In England there is no middle leader framework to help scaffold the development over time of middle leaders, who often evolve into middle leadership through development of their strong teaching.
Now layering leadership and management onto their role, there is little more disheartening than watching an inspirational teacher and middle leader become disenfranchised, or burnt out within the first two or three years of middle leadership through lack of self-awareness, knowledge or skill
The programme is highly personalised to each group and is based on Coach-Evolution’s extensive research around middle leadership, experience in development of middle leaders and coaching expertise. The programme uses a combination of coaching and mentoring appropriate to the participants’ needs
Participants will benefit from small online group workshops based around seven modules, with a 1:1 pre-module coaching session based on a DISC profile assessment to support better understanding of self. The course is accompanied by a workbook with useful resources and development planning template.
During the programme there is the opportunity to try out new tools in a safe space and to think about how to apply new learnings back in the work space between sessions. All course materials are accessed through a secure learning platform unique to the clients.
The final module is a chance to look back and to reflect; it is an opportunity to consolidate new learnings, new experiences, growth and moving forward, to commit to a plan.
For most middle leaders, they have shown that they are great teachers and promotion into leadership follows naturally. Unfortunately there is little relevant CPD available to support this transition into leadership which gives middle leaders the time or space to reflect on "self" as a leader, nor consider useful leadership tools to develop others and teams. It is recognised that NPQs do not support the development of "self" as a leader. Coaching is a forward looking solution that puts faith in the client's ability to choose the right path in discovering themself as a leader, given a supportive and challenging voice alongside. We start with some self discovery through a DISC profile, before setting goals to frame the conversation. Additionally, and with the client's permission, I am able to also dip in and out of mentoring based on my experiences as a school leader.
“National professional qualifications (NPQ’s) for school leaders lack the “full extent of skills and knowledge” needed............The NPQ report recommended ministers team up with the Education Endowment Foundation to pilot “beyond NPQ” or “NPQ+” provision that goes further than the existing programmes. This would place more emphasis on supporting leaders to develop “in relation to their own wellbeing and leading cultures which support this in others, both staff and pupils”.

"Before you can lead others, you must first learn to lead yourself"
You know that you are coming up against hurdles that are causing you difficulty, but you also know that deep down you probably have the solutions, but are not sure how to go about implementing them. Understanding yourself through a DISC profile with a detailed report, and some expert support in understanding what it means, is the beginning of your coaching journey. With this information as your foundation, I will listen to you deeply, and then support you, challenge you and with kindness, hold you to account for the actions that you decide to take. Sometimes having a non-judgemental and invested partner alongside is all that we need to make the changes we desire.
As a DISC accredited practitioner, I have extensive experience of helping clients to understand their preferences in the way they approach life. As importantly, it helps clients to also understand both "what" and "why" they avoid certain scenarios and people. A raised awareness can then lead to simple wins. The DISC profile remains present throughout coaching as a useful tool to dip in and out of as appropriate. Each session is goal based and reflective of the client's self improvement journey. After each session the client will receive a recorded summary of the session, as well as being able to contact me between sessions to share quick wins, frustrations or questions.

" My team just don't seem to understand each other"
"I just feel that we could achieve so much more"
"We're ready to take the next step"
If any of the above apply to you team, a Team Development Day (or half day) may just help.
“The existence of trust between people does not necessarily mean that they like one another. It means that they understand one another”
Watching the light bulb moments across a Team once inidividuals start to understand the reasons for certain behaviours - of self and others - is a positive step in terms of improving team communication, interactions and so, performance. Finding new and better ways of working together is the key to a team development day. Please contact me to discuss your team's needs
Each team member begins by completing their own DISC assessment, to begin to raise awareness of "self" and how you may be functioning within your team. You may find out information that you did not previously know (blind spots) and you may start to think about other people in your team and begin to think insightfully about where you have success and where you struggle, and the reason for this. When all of the team has completed their DISC assessment, we create a radar graph of the team, and then come together for a half day or a day to begin to explore what this means, with a strong focus on communication.
A team’s culture is not defined by the Trust or the School's mission or values. It’s defined by the values, beliefs, attitudes, and behaviours shared by the members of the team. It’s the way the team "does things", from how they engage in difficult conversations to how they celebrate success. Each individual team member contributes to the whole team culture. Now that you better understand yourself through your own DISC profile, our team development day will help you to begin to better understand each other and learn how to overcome hurdles that have been in the way; we aim to build on your team "personality" through better, stronger understanding and communication.
